Abstract

This work presents an investigation of the ternary Al-Bi-Ge system, combining computational phase diagram calculations with extensive experimental characterization. Phase diagrams were calculated using Pandat software, while experimental studies were conducted on alloys from two isothermal sec-tions. Selected alloys were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectrome-try (EDS), while the microstructure was examined by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microstructure of all samples annealed at 400 °C, consists on three phases L, (Al) and (Ge), while in the microstructure of samples equilibrated at 25 °C, the phases (Al), (Bi) and (Ge) were revealed. The obtained results contribute to a better understanding of phase equilibria in this ternary system. Fundamental knowledge of the phase relationships of the respective alloy system is of great importance
