Abstract

This research article present the process of introducing high-quality microalloyed steel S460MC into the production program of a steel plant, with a particular focus on the adjustment of technological parameters and the achieved results. S460MC steel belong to the category of thermomechanically rolled steels with improved properties for cold forming throught microalloying, which contributes to it s high strenght along with good weldability and ductility. All technological aspects of production are thoroughly analyzed - from raw material preparation, steel scrap and iron, through the converter section and argon station, to the radial continuous casting machine, as well as the subsequent processing and quality control of the slabs. Special emphasis in the steel plant was placed on achieving the requred chemical composition of the steel for the specified grade, as well as modifications in the casting process to prevent defects in the slabs during quality control, in order to ensure the appropriate mechanical properties for the further processing by hot rolling. Since several trial ordrs were carried out, the results from the repeated casting series demonstrated successful integration of the new grade into the existing production system, with optimization of key parameters and maintenance of high level of slab quality.
